The Belfast Botanic Gardens has been a public park since Victorian times and not only has retained it's charms but been regularly improved over the years too so it's well worth a visit with little nature lovers and amateur botanists of all ages!
Well surfaced and accessible walking routes will take you all around the gardens so you can discover the alpine garden, giant bird feeders, a rockery, the rose garden, shrub borders, specimen trees and sculptures.
There's also a children's playground with fun natural style play equipment for most ages and abilities to let off some steam on with some classic elements and some more esoteric fare as well. Lovely!
Buildings for the family to explore include the Palm House, which is full of tropical plants, and the Tropical Ravine where tropical plants and seasonal displays can be found, but it should be noted that as of the beginning of 2016 the Ravine is still largely closed for a major refurbishment. During this period however many of the features have been integrated into the Palm House so that bit is better than ever!

We do strongly suggest you contact Botanic Gardens and Palm House before you set off on your family day out, just to make sure they are open and to confirm admission prices, as there is nothing worse than disappointed kids in the back of your car after a long journey.
