Bolton Museum, Aquarium and Archive is a great fun day out for both children and adults alike.
Our collection is full of exciting and fascinating objects from across the globe that the whole family can enjoy, from Japanese Samurai armour to South American butterflies; and Bolton?s connection to Egypt is celebrated in our wonderful Ancient Egypt gallery displaying jewels, treasures, everyday objects and a 3,200 year old mummy.
Visit the Wildlife on your doorstep gallery which shows all kinds of fascinating creatures that live near us and their different home environments.
You can also visit the aquarium which is home to an amazing range of freshwater fish from all over the world. Open since 1941, the aquarium is the only one of its kind in Greater Manchester and a must-see for all.
Children can enjoy a whole range of activities throughout the year including quizzes and themed weeks and talks, with special events during the school holidays. There?s also an activity space especially for children; with plenty of seating available for parents and carers to have a rest too.
Entrance to Bolton Museum, Aquarium and Archive is FREE so drop in for a visit and be inspired by all that Bolton has to offer.

Bolton Museum, Aquarium and Archive is located in Bolton town centre, to the rear of the town hall, on Le Mans Crescent. The museum is easily accessible by road via the A676, A666 and the A579. Bolton railway station is a 10 minute walk away with regular, direct trains to and from Manchester, Blackpool and surrounding areas. There is a bus station just behind the museum adjacent to Bolton Market.
