Attraction Information
Standing in the heart of Norfolk's undulating fields, Bircham Windmill now looks as it did over 100 years ago. At that time over 300 mills ground corn for horse and cattle feed and breadmaking in Norfolk.
Today, very few windmills are left, and Bircham Mill is considered one of the best still remaining: it is the only windmill in working order in this area open to the public.
Visitors can climb the five floors up to the fan stage and, when possible, on windy days, visitors can also see the sails and the milling machinery turning.
Kids can try their baking skills in their Children's Baking Corner within the busy bakery making their own rolls or mini-loaf to take home.
There are also plenty of opportunities to get close to animals at Bircham Windmill. Children can go into the goat pen and stroke the goat and sheep and feed them with special food from the dispenser. Visitors can watch the sheep milking every day at 2pm.
There is a family cycle hire centre providing a wide range of bikes for all the family. They provide routes to follow for 1 hour rides, for 2 hour rides, or all day. Trailer bikes, children's trailer and child seats can be provided. There are also bikes for the little ones to ride on around the gardens.
