Baylham House Rare Breeds Farm
Baylham House Rare Breeds Farm is a wonderful place to take children and was voted "The Best Visitor Experience" in Suffolk for 2006, 2007 and 2010.
The primary aim of the farm is to help maintain the national stock of endangered and rare farm animals by breeding them and providing them with the best possible care in a traditional, non-intensive environment.
The secondary aim is to provide visitors, particularly children, with an opportunity to meet healthy, contented and friendly farm animals.
Every child is given a free bag of food for feeding the animals. Four breeds of cattle and six flocks of rare sheep can be seen at Baylham House. The pig collection includes Berkshire, Large Black, Middle White and Kune Kunes, the very friendly Maori pigs from New Zealand. You will also find, goats, poultry and alpacas on the farm.
Baylham House Farm is an excellent place to come with a picnic lunch, to meet a variety of animals, take a walk along the riverside and lakeside paths and spend the day in the countryside within the Gipping Valley. The majority of the paths are wheel chair and push chair friendly and, when you've had your fill of fresh air and when the children are exhausted, you can recover with a light lunch, a cream tea or a choice of home made cakes in the Visitors' Centre which also sells a wide selection of gifts. A disabled toilet and baby changing facilities are available.
Disabled Access: Mini Buses with disabled passengers can park by the Visitors Centre.
The majority of the paths are wheel chair friendly and there are seats available for resting spread around the farm.
A disabled toilet is available.
Baylham House Farm has a cafe which is rapidly gaining a reputation for providing high quality home cooked soups, light lunches, cream teas and cakes. Ice cream and cold drinks are also available. On many weekends specials such as roast pork or sausage baps or bacon rolls will be available. Childrens' portions are available.
We try to have some gluten free baking available at all times. Vegetarians are catered for.
All our gifts are chosen and priced to give value for money. There are always plenty of items priced with childrens' pocket money in mind.
A toilet with disabled facilities and baby changing facilities is available.
We can microwave baby food pots and bottles on request.
Baylham House Rare Breeds Farm is 6 miles north west of Ipswich and is signposted off the B1113 down Mill Lane, Baylham, between Needham Market and Great Blakenham.
