Bakewell Old House museum is a quirky Tudor house with big rooms and dark corners to explore.

Follow the RAT trail from room to room and discover amazing ratty facts.
Why not try the “Find Mr Plants sheep trail”, which is free from Bakewell information centre and get 1 free child entry ticket to the museum. There is so much to see for children and parents too! Time travel to the past with dressing up costumes, a Victorian dolls house, free colouring sheets and occasional craft activities. Discover a Tudor toilet and Victorian privy. Play old fashioned games in the courtyard, and read about Philus the Bakewell elephant!

We do strongly suggest you contact Bakewell Old House Museum before you set off on your family day out, just to make sure they are open and to confirm admission prices, as there is nothing worse than disappointed kids in the back of your car after a long journey.

There is a hot drinks machine, bottled water, and a variety of sweets for sale. You are welcome to eat your picnic in the courtyard.

"are we there yet?"

From the main roundabout by the Rutland Hotel in Bakewell town centre, follow the A6 road to Buxton but turn immediately left up North Church Street. The church should be on your left. At the top of the road is a sharp right hand bend. Take the second left (driveway) up to the museum. See the brown tourism sign. Parking for blue badge holders only. The Old House is a 10 minute walk from the town centre. Up the hill behind the church. any top tips?

Park up your buggy in the main Houseplace whilst you have fun exploring. The floors are uneven and light levels low so be careful when walking around. Friendly dogs are welcome. There are moveable wheelchair ramps, but no access to upper floor for wheelchairs.
