Amble Links Beach
Amble Links Beach
The finest sands are toward Hauzley to the south of the harbour, which offers a great view of Coquet Island and its working lighthouse.
Coquet is managed by the RSPB and is home to over 18,000 puffins, the UKs largest colony. Although you can't land on the island there are regular bird watching cruises from Amble regardless of the weather.
Less than a mile from the coast the island holds the ruins of a medieval monastery. It's owned by the Duke of Northumberland who lives in Alnwick Castle, otherwise known these days as Hogwarts from the earlier Harry Potter films. This is a few miles north and inland and well worth a visit, see our listing.
More immediate local amenities include toilets with disabled access, shops, a restaurant, harbour and marina.
A variety of watersports can be arranged through the Coquet Shorebase Trust 01665 710367. We haven't heard that you can't swim there, but do exercise caution because there's no lifeguard cover.
If you've had fun on your family day out to Amble Links Beach, tell us about it your visit, so other people will know it's a great place to go as well.
