Aldeburgh Mystery Treasure Trail
The Aldeburgh Mystery Treasure Trail takes you around the highlights of Aldeburgh testing your observation skills and powers of deduction as you find clues on buildings, signs, plaques, etc.
Solve the fun clues as you walk around and you will end up with the solution to the mystery. Submit the answer on our website and, if correct, you will be eligible for the annual cash prize draw.
All directions are included to take you from one clue to the next, and we’ve also included snippets of interesting local history. The mystery itself is fully explained in an amusing, far fetched back story, linked to local history.
Adults and children alike will be entranced by this novel way of learning about Aldeburgh and seeing its sites and icons. Locals will discover things they never knew about their home town.
The Trail is 2 miles long, will take about 2 hours to complete and doesn’t involve entering any private property or paying entrance fees. Complete it in your own time any day of the week; any time of year.
The Trail includes some steps and a medium steep gradient but most of the Trail is on flat ground. It’s therefore not suitable for wheelchairs or heavy pushchairs. If you want to get close to the Scallop Sculpture you’ll have to walk across a shingle beach.
The Aldeburgh Mystery Treasure Trail takes you past some of Aldeburgh’s best eateries, cafés, bars and pubs so you’ll be spoilt for choice if you need refreshments.
Public toilets are well signed and easily accessible along the Aldeburgh Mystery Treasure Trail route.
We’ve chosen Thorpe Road long term car park as the start of the Trail to avoid driving through the busy town centre. From here it’s about a ten minute walk to the town centre, following the clues. To find the car park, follow the signs to Church Farm camp site. When you reach the sea front, just past the camp site, turn left and then first right into the car park. Minimum stay 4 hours £2 (2011)
Most of the Trail is on pedestrian pavements but part of it takes you down the town steps so it’s not suitable for wheelchairs or heavy pushchairs. All you’ll need is a pen and suitable walking shoes. If it’s warm and sunny you might want to take your swim things too!
If you've had fun on your family day out to Aldeburgh Mystery Treasure Trail, tell us about it your visit, so other people will know it's a great place to go as well.
