Boasting the oldest iron built pier in Britain, the sandy, dune backed beach of Ainsdale is considered the main bathing beach of Southport.
Land based traction kiting is popular here, as is windsurfing and swimming.
Lifeguard cover is Easter to September.
The Natural England Nature Reserve offers over 450 wild plant species, and wildlife such as sand lizards, great crested newts and natterjack toads. Behind the dunes is a pine wood home to many red squirrels, and a short walk away is the village of Ainsdale with its boating lake and eating places.
