Aillwee Cave
One of the oldest caves in Ireland, Aillwee Cave was formed by the erosive power of glacial melt waters of an early ice age that created a river running deep underneath Aillwee mountain.
The river has subsided leaving behind one of Ireland's most stunning caves.
A guided tour will take you through the large caverns and illuminated tunnels, over bridges and passed waterfalls.
Special events are held here at Christmas and Easter.
There’s a craftshop, farm shop, tea room, garden shop, dairy where you can see cheese being made.
While at Aillwee Cave, walk up Aillwee Mountain to take in the spectacular views of the valley, Galway Bay and the Connemara Mountains or wander through the woodland trail in Hazel Woods maintained to preserve and encourage the natural flora and fauna of the area. You may even come across examples of prehistoric dwellings!
Also visit the Burren Bird of Prey Centre which is nearby.
If you've had fun on your family day out to Aillwee Cave, tell us about it your visit, so other people will know it's a great place to go as well.
