Attraction Information
Abbotsbury Swannery near Weymouth, has become one of the most popular things to do for the family visiting Dorset. Located on the dramatic Dorset Coast, this unique natural wildlife habitat is also popular with film makers and has been used as a location for Harry Potter filming.
Everyone will enjoy the chance to see more swans that you could ever imagine up close in their natural habitat. There are plenty of benches, plus an observation platform and a hide to enable you to see as much as possible.
The site itself will entertain the kids too, with the largest willow maze in Dorset to explore, which has distorting mirrors and bongo drums inside, tractor and trailer rides, pedal go-karts, and a Swinging Nests play area! There is also a Swanherd's Hut and History Room to investigate, a Monks' herb garden, plus a Reed Cutter's display. There are also a number of picnic areas if you want to bring lunch but be prepared to fend off the borders of your snack blanket from the rather bolshy birdies!
So if your family is looking for unusual things to do on holiday in Dorset, come to the Swannery and help hand feed 600 swans at noon and 16:00 daily, while listening to an interesting talk from the Swan-herd, with lots of information about the swans (and ducks) you will see, plus the history of the area. Fantastic feathery fun for all the family!
